Screen protection films are available to protect your own smartphone or other mobile devices. These protect against scratches and annoying fingerprints. Good versions also inhibit bacterial reproduction to keep the surface of the device germ-free.

In the creative field, inkjet and laser transfer films are convincing. You can use these to print your own creations or the company logo on T-shirts. High-quality flock films allow you to add individual text to textiles with a fluffy surface structure. With nail foils you can create your own design stickers to embellish your fingernails.

Why should my mobile phone have a screen protector film?

A smartphone screen film protects the sensitive display from dirt and scratches. They extend the life of your device. This is especially important if it is an expensive model. The protective films maintain the resale value.

Damage to the surface is caused by keys. Coins or other sharp objects in your pocket. But sand, dirt or placing it on a table also leave marks over time. The plastic films to protect your display consist of different thin layers that serve different purposes. The adhesive layer allows the film to be attached without leaving any residue. The bubble-free application makes the display protection film almost inconspicuous. The robust materials prevent scratches without restricting the usability of the smartphone.

Different versions are available:

  • Transparent protective films reduce the risk of scratches. The degree of hardness is decisive here. In addition, they reduce fingerprints on the visible surface.
  • Anti-reflective screen protectors allow the screen to be viewed without problems in strong sunlight at the beach or other sun-exposed locations.
  • Anti-shock protective films protect the screen from scratches. At the same time, the films provide enough strength to prevent the screen from bursting if the device is dropped. The manufacturers promise a high level of protection. The films are even said to protect against hammer blows.
  • Privacy films prevent other people from reading your smartphone. The films restrict the viewing angle to 30 degrees so that no one can catch a glimpse of your activities on public transport.
  • Full-mirrored screen protectors are especially popular with women. By using them, you use your mobile phone as a mirror when the screen is off. This makes for a quick make-up check.

What are laminating foils suitable for?

The foils are used to protect important pictures, information signs, documents, loyalty cards or ID cards. The lamination gives them a protective layer that repels dirt and water. In addition, the plastic layer prevents the documents from yellowing and wearing out through frequent use.

For lamination, you need the appropriate films and a laminator with which to carry out the hot lamination. To seal the documents permanently, place them in the laminating film pouch. It is important that the forms are heat-resistant. Inside, the foils have a special dry adhesive. This liquefies due to the heat of the laminator and bonds with the paper. The protruding edges seal the edge. After cooling down, the documents are hard due to the solidification of the adhesive.

There is a choice of matt and glossy foils in different sizes. It is possible to write on them with water-soluble pens or permanent markers.

What are overhead transparencies suitable for?

OHP transparencies are used to create print transparencies for overhead projectors. They are available for laser or inkjet printers. Inkjet overhead transparencies are specially coated, transparent versions in DIN A4 format. You can use them to create transparencies in black and white or in colour. The advantage is that the ink dries in seconds. This means you can use the printed products immediately without smudging images and text. Modern versions are suitable for all common inkjet printers. They allow feeding via the collecting tray.

Do not print on films for laser printers with an inkjet because the surface is too smooth. The ink will not adhere to it. For laser printers you need other foils. These are thicker and more heat-resistant than conventional inkjet films. Because they become statically charged and stick together after printing, good products are antistatic. OHP films for laser printers can be printed on both sides. With inkjet versions, the ink only adheres to the rougher side surface.

What are transfer films?

Transfer ribbons are suitable for textile finishing. You use them either for transfer or flock printing. The difference is that with the latter, the flock foils have a fluffy, soft surface that you print directly onto the fabric with the plotter. The motifs have a raised, velvety structure. You can use them to print on cotton fabrics, but also on mixed fibres, viscose, nylon and polyester.

With normal inkjet or laser transfer films, you can embellish T-shirts or other fabrics using your own printer. They are known as iron-on films, which you apply to cotton textiles. After printing, cut out the design and iron it onto the textile.

There is a choice of thin films for use on light-coloured textiles. Here, the colour of the fabric shines through afterwards. Use thicker versions for dark materials. They allow you to print photos or full-surface, photo-realistic motifs. You can use the transfer ribbons with almost any colour laser printer or copier.

Do I need a specific printer to print on the film?

To produce the motifs, there is special graphics software for the PC. Simple texts, graphics and photos are possible. For the printable foils, make sure that they are suitable for the laser or inkjet printer in question. If you use the wrong printable foils, they may damage your printer. Canon transfer ribbons from Prindo work well with various PIXMA devices. AVERY Purpose Form transfer ribbons work well with most inkjet printers. Flock foils can be applied to textiles using a special plotter.
